Yılmaz Sac Profil
C, Z and Sigma Purlin Manufacturer in Türkiye

C, Z and Sigma Purlin Manufacturer in Türkiye

Yılmaz Sac Profil manufactures C, Z and sigma purlins in Türkiye to the customer's drawing, 1–6 mm thick, on tooling it designs and makes in-house, with more than 2,500 tons a month of roll-forming capacity. For roofs and walls, warehouses and industrial buildings, solar and racking, the purlins are rolled from DX51D+Z galvanized, Zn-Al-Mg (ZM) coated, S350GD–S450GD structural-grade or black steel, punched and cut to length in-line, and shipped across Türkiye and to Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Which purlins do we make?

A purlin is the light horizontal member that carries the roof cladding and passes its load to the main frames; on walls the same member, spanning between columns, is called a side rail or girt. We roll purlins in three cold-formed sections: the lipped C-profile, the Z-profile that laps over the supports, and the sigma profile with its stepped web.

They are used in the roofs and walls of steel buildings, warehouses and industrial buildings, and in greenhouses, racking and storage systems and solar power plants. The purlins and rails that carry the modules on solar tables are made under our Y Solar brand; see solar purlins and rails.

C, Z or sigma purlin: what is the difference?

C purlins are simple and common, and economical in single-span use. Their shear centre lies outside the web, so they tend to twist under load; connections and lateral restraint are detailed to account for that.

Z purlins have opposed flanges, so two purlins can nest and overlap over a support. Lapped Z purlins act as a continuous beam along long runs, reducing deflection and weight. Sigma purlins have two inward steps formed into the web; the steps stiffen the web and delay local buckling, giving more bending capacity than a C-section at the same gauge.

How are purlin size and thickness chosen?

The purlin section follows from span, purlin spacing, cladding, snow and wind loads, and continuity (single span or lapped). Web depth sets major-axis bending capacity, flange width the connection face, the lip the flange's buckling resistance and thickness the load capacity. With S420GD or S450GD instead of S350GD the same load is carried at a thinner gauge, lowering tonnage.

Thin-walled cold-formed purlins are designed to EN 1993-1-3, and the project's structural calculation sets the final section. We support projects from the start with section optimisation and material and coating choice, so you do not pay for a purlin heavier than it needs to be.

The table gives theoretical weights per metre for example sections. These are theoretical example sizes, not a stock list; any size in the 1–6 mm range is rolled to drawing. Values are calculated at 7.85 g/cm³ with an inner bend radius equal to the thickness, coating excluded. A C and a Z of the same h × b × c have the same developed width and therefore the same weight per metre; the sigma row is taken from a 300 mm developed (strip) width. For your own size use our steel weight calculator.

How are purlins punched and cut to length?

Decoiling and levelling, roll forming, in-line punching and flying cut-off to length all happen on one line. Connection holes, slots and splice holes for the laps are punched in the same pass as the forming, so hole positions are identical across thousands of parts and there is no drilling or cutting on site.

Purlins are cut to the lengths on your order list, then bundled by section and length, strapped with steel banding and labelled. Because we design and make the tooling and rolls in-house, a purlin section to your own drawing moves quickly to first article and series production.

Galvanized or ZM purlins, and to which standards?

We form purlins from pre-coated coil — Zn-Al-Mg (ZM120–ZM430) or galvanized (Z275–Z600) — so they leave the line coated and need no post-galvanizing bath. Zn-Al-Mg self-heals at sheared and punched edges and lasts longer than galvanizing at the same coating mass, which matters most on heavily punched purlins. Purlins that will be painted are also rolled from black steel. See our Zn-Al-Mg vs galvanized guide.

Coated steel is supplied to EN 10346, structural steel to EN 10025, and dimensional tolerances follow EN 10162. Production runs under an ISO 9001 quality management system, and steel fabrication is carried out to EN 1090.

Supplying Europe: shipping and documents

Yılmaz Sac Profil ships from its plant in Türkiye to Europe, the Middle East and North America by truck or container. We handle packing and prepare the loading plan ourselves; for profiles it is planned around the profile length.

EN 10204 3.1 mill certificates, certificates of origin and shipping documents are provided on request. Delivery terms (EXW, FOB or CIF) and the lead time are agreed at quotation. Enquiries in English: contact@yilmazsacprofil.com.

Delivery across Türkiye and abroad

We manufacture for industrial companies across Türkiye and for projects in Europe, the Middle East and the USA, on jobs that need laser cutting of plate up to 30 mm (with oxygen), bending up to 8 m in one piece, plate rolling up to 5,000 mm diameter or series roll forming up to 6 mm.

We arrange delivery to every province in Türkiye and abroad. Send your drawing by email or through the quote form: our technical team confirms price and lead time, and after approval we pack and ship the parts for you.

You deal with one contact throughout. Because material, cutting, bending, roll forming and welding happen in one plant, your parts never travel between workshops, and tolerances and lead time are managed from one place.

Frequently asked questions

Which purlin types do you make?

C, Z and sigma purlins and wall girts, to the customer's drawing in 1–6 mm, from DX51D+Z galvanized, Zn-Al-Mg (ZM) coated, S350GD–S450GD structural-grade or black steel. Our roll-forming capacity is more than 2,500 tons a month.

Why are Z purlins lapped?

A Z-section's flanges point in opposite directions, so two purlins can nest and overlap over a support. The lap carries the support moment and the purlins behave as a continuous beam along the run, so the same load is carried with a lighter section.

When is a sigma purlin better than a C purlin?

When the span or the load grows. The sigma's stepped web delays local buckling and gives more bending capacity than a C-section at the same gauge. The C purlin is simpler and more common, and cheaper wherever the load allows.

Can you supply purlins pre-punched and cut to our lengths?

Yes. Connection holes, slots and lap holes are punched on the roll-forming line in the same pass as the forming, and the flying cut-off cuts purlins to the lengths on your order list; bundles are made up and labelled by section and length.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

There is no hard minimum on catalogue sections. A new section needs its own roll set, so it needs a worthwhile annual volume — tell us your annual metres and we will work out where the tooling pays for itself.

What should I send for a quote?

A section drawing (DXF, DWG or PDF) or h × b × c × t; steel grade and coating; the length and quantity list and, if known, annual footage; hole and lap pattern; delivery location. Upload the files through the quote form or email them to contact@yilmazsacprofil.com.

Do you supply customers in Europe, and with which documents?

Yes. We ship from Türkiye to Europe, the Middle East and North America by truck or container. EN 10204 3.1 mill certificates and certificates of origin are provided on request; delivery terms (EXW, FOB, CIF) are agreed at quotation.
